A New Beginning but First The Past
Wow, it's hard to believe that it's already the second week in March!
At the beginning of this year, my wife, Brianna, and our two kids spent January and February in Gulf Shores, AL. We've been doing this for the past two years. However, this year was significantly different from the previous ones.
You may not know this about me, so let me provide some additional context.
I started my own insurance business in October 2017 while I was still working for a bank in Des Moines, IA.
Let's just say the first Annual Enrollment Period didn't go as I had hoped; I managed to write 12 applications while working full-time at a local Credit Union.
Fast forward, in July 2018, my wife and I moved back to Wisconsin after I left a dead-end banking job to embark on my entrepreneurial journey. We chose Wisconsin (Home State too ☺️) because it offered more support than Iowa did.
This decision turned out to be pivotal. I was able to write 250+ new clients that year.
In 2021, my mentor and I purchased a book of business in Northern WI, which turned into a complete disaster. Even though the agency owned the book of business, a carrier went against their contract and revoked our commissions.
Despite this setback, I still managed to bring on another 250+ clients that year.
Then came 2022.
My mentor asked if I wanted to become a partner in the agency. Without hesitation, I said yes, despite not knowing the cost or how I would finance it. In retrospect, this was an even better decision than moving back to Wisconsin in 2018.
Within two months, the transaction was completed, and I became a partner in the agency.
This achievement was a testament to my growth, going from my worst Annual Enrollment Period (12 applications) in November 2017 to now being a partner in an agency.
A few months later, we were approached by three firms looking to acquire us...
